Freeware Small Fonts

2Small (aka TewSmall)

Copyright © 2003 by David Piepgrass

This OpenType font is designed for future use on the PalmPilot for people who need to cram as much on their 160x160 screen as possible. All ASCII characters are intended to be 5 pixels high or fewer and all letters are 5 pixels wide or fewer (spacing between characters excluded.) People using this font should be able to fit 40x22 (40 wide, 22 high) characters on the screen, whereas the built-in font can only do about 32x14. If the lines are packed tightly, 26 can fit on a page, and lines consisting of all digits will average 50 columns. That's an improvement in squeeeeeezing technology of between 98% and 290%. Although this font would be entirely unreadable on a hi-res 320x320 screen, those with better-than-20/20 will appreciate having 80x44 (that's 3520) characters on a single screen.

Lesspixels

This OpenType font is designed for future use on the PalmPilot. It is as small as a font can be while still being comfortably legible (unlike 2Small, which is legible but ugly). All ASCII characters are intended to be 7 pixels high or fewer and all letters are 5 pixels wide or fewer (spacing between characters excluded.) People using this font should be able to fit 40x20 (40 wide, 20 high) characters on the screen, whereas the built-in font can only do about 32x14. If the lines are packed tightly, 22 can fit on a page. That's an improvement in squeeeeeezing technology of between 78% and 96%. Although this font would be tiny on a hi-res 320x320 screen, those with better-than-20/20 will appreciate having 80x40 (that's 3200) characters on a single screen.
